Most people agree that railways have an important role to play in a future sustainable transport system. Rail transport has a number of system inherent advantages like low energy usage and high transport capacity. However, there is also a common perception that the full potential of rail transport is not used today.
Examples from both passenger and freight transport will be given as well as results from current Shift2Rail projects.
